Finland won the first ever 60-meter hurdles medal of its Euro Indoors history
Reeta Hurske brought Finland the first medal of the country’s history in 60m hurdles. Hueske, equalling the Finnish record with 7.79, was crowned European champion. Nadine Visser, who took to the track for her third consecutive gold in the event, clocked a season best of 7.84 but settled for silver. Ditaji Kambundji, last year’s 100m European bronze-medallist, completed the family podium reign by obtaining the first indoor medal of her career with a bronze.
Jason Joseph claimed the first Swiss gold of European Athletics Indoor Championships in men’s 60m hurdles. Joseph clocked a Europe leasing 7.41 en route to the first medal of his senior career. Another athlete to achieve this was Poland’s Jakub Szymanski, who won silver with 7.56. Just Kwaou-Mahey also won his first European indoor medal in Istanbul with a bronze in 7.59. An upsetting event also took place in the final as Spanish Enrique Llopis fainted to the ground after the last hurdle. Llopis was placed under observation in the hospital.
