Stars gear up for Istanbul

Some of the renowned European athletics stars are gearing up to preparations prior to the Istanbul 2023.

Several European stars have unveiled their indoor schedule of the new season prior to the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul.

Swedish world record holder pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, will kick of the campaign in his hometown Uppsala in early February. Duplantis, current European and World Indoor champion, also registered for Berlin and Lievin Indoor meets in February before his well expected participation of European Indoors. Another World and Olympic gold medallist, Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be contested in prestigious Lievin meeting as well. 

Norway’s world record holder hurdler Karsten Warholm expressed his willingness to return indoor circuit last week. Warholm will have a try first in his name-sake meeting in Ulsteinhallen, while he opens the door for competing at the European Indoors subsequently.

Like Warholm, injury-hampered Olympic champion Marcel Jacobs is considering of his title defence in Istanbul. The Italian star is working for a having a good shape for indoor races since October, will be on the starting block at Copernicus Cup in Poland, early February. He explained, if everything goes well, he wants to be defend her 60 metres Euro Indoor title in Istanbul.

In the women’s side, most of the European champions are on the preparation period for indoor races, including Netherlands’ heroine Femke Bol and Serbian long jump icon Ivana Vuleta, who had lots of success in Ataköy Arena previously in the Balkan Indoor Championships. 32-year-old Serb most likely will contest to secure her fourth gold medal in Istanbul.
