Samuele Ceccarelli became the European Indoor champion by fending off Lamont Marcell Jacobs.
Ceccarelli beat the Olympic and European champion for the second time in one month, after winning gold in the Italian National Indoor Championships in front of Jacobs. As Ceccarelli led Jacobs by 0.01 seconds last month with 6.55, this time the winning margin for the men’s 60m title at the European Athletics Indoor Championships was 0.02 seconds. While Samuele Ceccarelli clocked 6.48, Marcell Jacobs won silver with 6.50, which was a season best for him. This also became the first men’s 60m gold-silver double for Italy in the history of the European Indoor Athletics Championships.
Bronze-medallist Henrik Larsson improved the 6.56 national record he broke two months ago by 0.03 seconds. The European U23 champion in 100m carried Sweden to its fourth podium in the event after 1977, 1996 and 2017.
