Thiam breaks the world record

Nafi Thiam sets pentathlon world record with 5055 points.

Most sensational result of the day in European Athletics Indoor Championships came from Nafi Thiam. Belgian pentathlete who made her season debut in Istanbul smashed the 11-year-old world record by recording 5055 points. 

Beginning her campaign with 1077 points from the 8.23 mark in 60m, Thiam added 1132 points with her 1.92 leap in high jump, 897 more with 15.54 in shot put and 1036 with 6.69 in long jump. 913 points in 800m with a personal best of 2:13.60 put her to 5055 points in total, which broke Natalia Dobrynska’s previous world record that was also set in Istanbul during 2012 World Indoor Athletics Championships. 

Silver-medallist Adrianna Sulek’s 5014 points was also above Dobrynska’s mark and set a Polish record. Noor Vidts, who made a season best with 4823 points, became the bronze-medallist.
