Tuğba Danışmaz wins the European 

Tuğba Danışmaz leapt to women’s triple jump gold with a mark of 14.31.

Danışmaz, with a leap of 14.31 won the European Athletics Indoor title and won Turkey its first ever women’s triple jump gold in the history of the event. The 23-year-old athlete also improved her own national indoor record by 16 centimeters along the way. Danışmaz’s first attempt was enough for her to win gold, while she also jumped to 14.11 in the second. As she stepped on the fault line on her remaining attempts, in the end, she surpassed Dariya Derkach and Patricia Mamona for gold. This result was also Turkey’s first gold medal in European Athletics Indoor Championships in eight years, when Ali Kaya reached for the top spot of the podium in men’s 3000m race in Prag 2015.

Dariya Derkach’s silver was Italy’s first women’s triple jump medal in 10 years, as she came in second with a 14.20 jump on her second attempt. The defending champion Patricia Mamona, who won the title with 14.53 in Torun two years ago, settled for bronze with a mark of 14.16
