European Athletics Indoor Championships

These championships are the oldest international indoor track and field events in the world. They officially started in 1970. Before that, athletes competed in the European Indoor Games between 1966 and 1969.

The event happened every year until 1990. After that, it switched to a biennial format. In 2002, the schedule changed again to avoid clashing with the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Recent and Upcoming Editions

Istanbul hosted the event in 2023 at the Ataköy Arena. In March 2025, the championships moved to Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The next edition will take place in Valencia, Spain, in 2027.
